Beverly Shores Heritage Trail

A Walking Tour of Historical Significance

Beverly Shores is a town rich in history from an era when Native American tribes lived on the shores of Lake Michigan , through a time when investors dreamed of a magnificent village replicating a colonial era, to its present small town in the heart of the 61st National Park: the Indiana Dunes National Park.

Over the years, a significant effort by volunteers has been made to find, in some cases to restore, and to preserve all manner of documents and images reflecting our history. But not everyone wants to go traipsing through archives, and there are advantages to visual experiences.

In 2019 the Depot embarked on a plan to bring a rich full experience to people in town and visitors alike. With the support of local donations for trail markers, significant volunteer hours to gather required information in a usable format, along with a grant from the State of Indiana, we created a “Heritage Trail.”

The Heritage Trail experience includes a self-guided (following a map) walking historical tour, combined with “on the spot” archives (using QRCodes) available at each location.

We invite you to enjoy the richness that is Beverly Shores!
