The Exhibit

The Beverly Shores Depot Museum and Art Gallery and The Shirley Heinze Land Trust are pleased to bring plein air artist Joel Sheesley to our community as the first Shirley Heinze Land Trust Artist-in-Residence.

Sheesley is a plein air artist extraordinaire. Over two years and in all four seasons, he visited Shirley Heinze nature preserves and Beverly Shores properties and created a collection of 15 paintings. The exhibit is a visually stunning reflection of the wide array of landscapes preserved by SHLT and the Beverly Shores community.

Sheesley is a contemplative painter. As he says, “We all have sensations; the painter’s task is to realize them, to render sensations as paint. On the painter falls the responsibility for handling the paint well.” Sheesley’s sensitive paintings transport the viewer to the place depicted. One can smell the brook, feel the cold fresh air of a winter day, and relish the peace that being in nature gives.
