Artist’s Statement
I grew up traveling, living in 10 different cities before the age of 18. Maybe because of that, I have a long-standing curiosity about our place in the universe. I’ve always used a camera to pay attention to the world around me, capturing the patterns and rhythms of nature, and the juxtaposition of man made objects. As a commercial photographer in Chicago, I primarily shoot food for advertising and packaging, I enjoy the attention to detail required, and carry that approach with me while shooting outdoors. My hope is that the viewer will enjoy these meditative moments, and be inspired to pause and pay attention to the world around them.
Artist’s Biography
As a commercial photographer in Chicago, I specialize in food and product photography for advertising, packaging and marketing. I created a light-filled, music-filled, laid back studio to work in every day. My clients included Pepsi, Kellogg’s, ConAgra, Radio Flyer, Frontera, Corona, Butterball, Unilever and more. I also shot PLATE, a professional food magazine for chefs. We had so much fun doing this with our great food stylists and clients, we dubbed it “our grown-up play group.”
I first picked up a camera and a Super 8 movie camera in high school, then studied photography at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Photography and Holography (remember that?) at The Art Institute of Chicago. I apprenticed with, and assisted, several prominent photographers in Chicago prior to striking out on my own.
I’ve played baseball most of my life, love sailing and playing guitar. I enjoy traveling to see the world, always with camera in hand, whether an 8″ x 10”, or with the most current state of the art digital equipment.
This is the first exhibit of my personal photography, and I am thrilled to be able to share these images at the Depot. Many thanks to Meg Bero for inviting me.
